Hey there, District 4! My name is Trish Purdy, and I have been privileged to represent our district on Regional Council since 2020. It has been quite an experience this past term, being elected during Covid, experiencing the homelessness crisis and policing challenges, the massive wildfires that devastated whole communities, and the unprecedented rainstorms that flooded streets, businesses and homes across our municipality. We are also experiencing massive development on a scale we have never seen before, along with an increasing population coupled with a housing and affordability crisis. It has definitely been a steep learning curve! The experience and courage I have gained this past term will serve our district well as we continue to tread on unprecedented ground. I have a proven history of voting for what I believe is best for our residents, even if it means being the only one.
Personally, I have been married for 27 years and our family includes 6 kids, a son-in-law, one adorable grandson, a precious toddler whom we love as a grandchild, and another amazing grandchild is on the way! Family is incredibly important to me, and this family is my favorite! We have come through many challenges together and I am so proud of every single one of us!
In 2017 I began working toward my Master of Divinity from Acadia Divinity College. My goal was to equip myself to help women who have survived difficult marriages. I have continued to take courses during my term as Councillor and I am pleased to say that after 8 years of hard but rewarding work, I will graduate with my MDiv in the spring of 2025.
There are many pressures and challenges facing HRM and our very own district, which I talk about in Community Concerns - and so continuity, experience, and a proven track record are imperative necessities for our representative to have for the next term on Regional Council. I am YOUR Councillor - who has spent the last 4 years learning the processes, becoming familiar with HRM policies, becoming familiar with the historic problematic issues in our district, meeting and helping our many amazing residents, building relationships with not only HRM staff but also elected officials from the other orders of government. This, and more, will all prove to provide important stability for our district moving forward, in the midst of continuously changing times.
For our community,
Trish
